Outside Activities and Conflicts Policy
The Outside Activities and Conflicts policy addresses the ethical expectations for employee participation in Outside Activities, and the requirements governing Conflict of Commitment (COC), Conflict of Interest (COI), and Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) in research. The policy describes employee obligations to obtain pre-approval for Outside Activities and to ensure full disclosure of Outside Activities, financial interests, and other relationships.
University employees are subject to various conflicts of interest provisions under federal regulations, state law, and university policy. Most conflicts can be categorized as one of five different potential types of conflicts:
1. Ohio Ethics Law conflicts (state law and university policy)
2. Research conflicts (federal regulations and university policy)
3. Conflicts of Commitment (federal regulations, state law, and university policy)
4. Ohio Technology Commercialization Law (state law and university rules)
5. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services - Open Payments
